การศึกษาชีววิทยาบางประการของปลาอีกอง (Puntius lateristriga, Smith, 1945) ได้ดำเนินการสำรวจและเก็บตัวอย่างปลาในจังหวัดชุมพรระหว่างเดือนตุลาคม 2541 ถึงกันยายน 2542 ผลการศึกษา จากตัวอย่างปลาอีกองที่รวบรวมได้ จำนวน 344 ตัว เป็นปลาเพศผู้ 110 ตัว ปลาเพศเมีย 234 ตัว มีความยาวเฉลี่ย 7.16 ± 1.38 เซนติเมตร น้ำหนักเฉลี่ย 7.54 ± 5.96 กรัม ปลาอีกองมีรูปร่างแบนข้าง มีความลึกลำตัวต่อความยาวมาตรฐานเท่ากับ 1 : 2.50 มีสัดส่วนเพศระหว่างปลาเพศผู้ : เพศเมีย เท่ากับ 1.0 : 2.66 จัดเป็นปลากินเนื้อ ชนิดอาหารที่พบในกระเพาะอาหารประกอบด้วย แมลงชนิดต่าง ๆ ร้อยละ 86.67 และอื่น ๆ ร้อยละ 13.33 สมการระหว่างความยาวและน้ำหนักปลาอีกองแบบรวมเพศ log W = 3.3373logL – 2.0422 (R² = 0.9724, n = 344, p < 0.01) ปลาอีกองเพศผู้ log W = 3.2642 log L– 1.9886 (R² = 0.9655, n = 110, p < 0.01) และปลาเพศเมีย log W = 3.3438log L– 2.0449 (R² = 0.9726, n = 234, p < 0.01) ลักษณะไข่ เป็นเม็ดกลม สีเหลืองอ่อน และเป็นไข่จมยึดติดกับวัสดุ ความดกไข่เฉลี่ย 939.15 ± 256 ฟอง ดัชนีความสัมพันธ์ของอวัยวะสืบพันธุ์ (GSI.) มีค่าสูงในเดือนพฤษภาคม สมการของความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างความยาวต่อความดกไข่ log F = 0.8503 + 2.2529 log L (R² = 0.5911, n = 20, p < 0.01) และความสัมพันธ์ระหว่าง น้ำหนักต่อความดกไข่ log F = 2.2254 + 0.6756 log W (R² = 0.6007, n = 20, p < 0.01)

A study on some biological aspects of T barb, Puntius lateristriga (Smith, 1945) in Chumphon province, was conducted during October 1998 to September 1999 Fish samples were collected every month with the total number of 344 individuals, 110 male and 234 female. The average sample size were 7.16± 1.38 centimeter in total length and 7.54 ± 5.96 gram of body weight. The result showed that body shape of P. lateristriga was compressed form, its ratio between body depth to standard length was 1: 2.50. Sex ratio between male and female was 1.0:2.66. The analysis of stomach contents showed that this fish was highly carnivorous. The composition of food items included 86.67% insects, and 13.33% of miscellaneous. The equations of length-weight relationship of both sex, male and female were log W = 3.3373 log L – 2.0422 (R² = 0.9724, n = 344, p < 0.01) log W = 3.2642 log L– 1.9886 (R² = 0.9655 , n = 110 , p < 0.01) and log W = 3.3438 log L– 2.0449 (R² = 0.9726 , n = 234 , p < 0.01) , respectively.

The characteristics of eggs were spherical light yellow in color and demersal type with attach to substrate. An average fecundity was 939.15± 256 eggs. Gonadosomatic index (GSI) indicated that spawning period of this fish highly to May. The relationship between body length and fecundity was log F = 0.850. + 2.2529 log L (R² = 0.5911 , n = 20 , p < 0.01 ) and the relationship between body weight and fecundity was log F = 2.2254 + 0.6756 log W (R² = 0.6007, n = 20, p < 0.01).
